Postira - picturesque fishermen harbor
Postira is a picturesque fishing village located on the northern coast of the island of Brač.
Narrow streets give the place a special charm and numerous stone houses in the harbor testify to the former landowners of Brač. Among them is the citadel of Lazanić family, in which the Croatian poet Vladimir Nazor (1876-1949) was born.
An unusual street called kogul leads to the parish church of st. John the Baptist built in the mid-16th century. Below it, the remains of an early Christian basilica from the 6th century were found.Other archeological sites also bear witness to the long history of Postira: Mirje on Mali Brig hill, where the early Christian monastery complex was found, and Lovrečina, also one of the most beautiful sandy coves, where the early Christian church from the 5th century is located.
Postira is a favorite destination for many tourists during summer months. Plenty of accessible beaches along the town, well-maintained promenades, parks, various activities such as cycling, quad and kayak tours, organized excursions, restaurants and taverns with delicious local dishes are just a part of rich offer.
Postira summer is full of interesting events, performances, musical evenings, oil festivals and fishing festivals. Of particular note are the Lady of Carmel Fair, Sea side film festival, Small Night Regatta, Orienteering Run and World Championship in olive picking, which has successfully linked tourism to olive growing for several years.
A part of the municipality of Postira is eco-ethno village Dol distance about 2 km, located in the deep valley in the island's interior. At the entrance to the village there are caves made of grainy stone hrapočuša and the autochthonous cake was named after it. This quient and pieceful place is full of preserved traditional stone houses and ideal for anyone who likes to explore. Food lovers can satisfy their palate in one of the local taverns. Among many delicious specialties, worthy of mention are Brač Vitalac and Hrapoćuša, dishes known in the world of high gastronomy and protected as an immaterial cultural good.
