WEEKEND ON ISLAND OF BRAČ
The island of Brač is the third largest Croatian island, as well as the largest Dalmatian island.
Looking over Brač Channel it seems so close to the mainland as to be arm's length. The stone waterfronts of its harbours are scenes of life open to travellers and tourists visiting the island, and the first-time explorer may feel that everything is at his fingertips. But Brač is special, unlike any other Dalmatian island. It is full of strange little corners, secrets, variations.
DAY 1
Arrival to Postira in the afternoon on your own arrangement. Accommodation in the hotel Lipa **** in the center of town, welcome drink, meeting with a tourist agent, free time until dinner and overnight. The rooms are air-conditioned, surface 25 m2 and include a private bathroom, safe, satellite TV, mini bar. The balcony offers view of the sea and the harbor.
DAY 2
After breakfast it's time to get to know Brač. Accompanied by a tourist guide, we reach eco-ethno village of Dol, located in a deep valley in the interior of the island. At the very entrance to the village are caves of granular stone called hrapoćuša, by which the indigenous cake is named. Archeological rarities in almost the entire Mediterranean are represented by preserved 16th century stone hives made of stone slabs and built in drywall technique. This small and peaceful place is full of preserved traditional stone houses and ideal for anyone who loves to explore.
Did you know that many of the world's buildings were made of stone from Brač? Legend says the White House is one of them!
Pučišća has long been known for its stonemasonry culture. The harmony and unity of the heavy houses and baroque buildings that were left out of the whiteness of Brač stone leave every visitor breathless. The tradition of stonemasonry continues to thiese days in the Stonemasonry school, the only one in Croatia and in this part of Europe. After a short tour of the town, we go for a visit to the stone carving workshop of Josip Radić, known for making the stone miniature of St. Peter's Basilica.
Brač is the highest of all Croatian islands. From Vidova Gora 778 meters high there is a spectacular view of the famous Bol beach Golden horn, the islands of Vis, Hvar and Korčula. With a little luck and good wind, the view sometimes even reaches Italy.
All the history and millennial life of the island best describes the oldest settlement, Škrip. Prehistorical ramparts, numerous archaeological finds, sarcophagi and reliefs and medieval graves make it one of the most significant archaelogical sites in Croatia.
The Museum of Olive oil presents the history of olive growing on the island as well as the entire traditional olive oil production process, all the traditional tools used for transport, production and storage of olive oil. After an interesting and instructive presentation you will be able to shrug your sleeves and try to get few drops of this green gold. There is also a taster in the museum and after hard work we will enjoy island delicacies such as olive pate, jams, cheese, domestic olive oil and wine.
DAY 3
With a gentle touch of olive oil and a wealth of Mediterranean plants, the essence of the Adriatic has been transformed into Brač Fine Soap. In a family run production plant, soaps are hand-made and cut, so every bar is unique. Essential oils give each soap specific healing properties and fragrance. During the tour you will have the opportunity to see a part of the long process of soap making. Each soap carries a part of Croatia so it is often taken as a unique souvenir.
After the tour, there is plenty of time for one last coffee and check-out.
